We all have different lifestyles, different amounts of stress, and different forms of stress that effect us everyday. With everything that we personally encounter day after day, our nutritional supplements need to be specifically targeted to our unique lifestyle. And while you want to take supplements that will help, anything extra could be potentially harmful. With that in mind, here is a list by Heather Hurlock of Best Life, of specific lifestyles and the best supplements for each. If you feel you fit into one of these categories, ask your doctor if the supplement suggested is best for you.

Obesity: Vitamin D gets caught up in fat tissue and doesn’t circulate, which means you might need more to compensate.

Distance Runner: Because you burn so much fuel, there is rapid elimination of vitamin C, an important nutrient for runners because it helps repair muscle and prevent muscle breakdown. Don’t take more than 500 mg a day.

Family History of Alzheimer’s Disease: Plant sterols and stanols reduce cholesterol, which has been found to accelerate the formation of the plaques that are associated with dementia.

High Blood Pressure: Coenzyme Q10 improves blood flow and should be considered even by healthy men who have a family history of high blood pressure.

Strength Trainer or Weight Lifter:L-carnitine helps shuttle fatty acids within mitochondria, the part of the cell that produces energy and builds muscle.

Recovering Alcoholics:B complex vitamins (b1, b2, b6, b12, and folic acid) are the first to become deficient in alcoholics.

Risk of Heart Attacks: Niacin increases good cholesterol and reduces heart-disease risk better than most drugs.

Recovering From a Heart Attack: One gram of omega-3 daily reduces the risk of sudden cardiac death. This has recently become an American Heart Associated standard treatment.

Family History of Early Vision Loss: Lutein protects the eyes from damage.

Smoker: Vitamin E is rapidly depleted by smoking, and continues to be deficient for up to five years after quitting.

Erectile Dysfunction: Red yeast rice extract is a natural form of statin that can increase blood flow.

Are Vasectomies Bad ?

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (2 votes, average: 5 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Just in case you need one, here is one more reason why vasectomies are a bad idea.

I recently read in Best Life magazine, that researchers from Northwestern University think that men might increase their risk of dementia by having vasectomies. Their study compared a group of men with dementia to a control group and found that 40 percent of the men with dementia had vasectomies compared with 16 percent who had vasectomies in the control group.

I understand that in certain cases people look into their options, but perhaps vasectomies are not the easier and safer option.

Sandra Weintraub, the director of Neurology in the cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center said that “[Vasectomies] may be a risk factor to increase your chance of getting [dementia].”

Though it is not 100%, if you are considering this option, it is wise to bring up this concern with your doctor.

Do computers cause Acne ?

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 5 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Though it may seem like a dubious statement, lets look at the facts. It is generally believed that Acne is caused by hormone changes caused by a variety of factors including Stress. Oily skin and a Bad diet of fast foods and snacks are also considered by many to cause Acne.

Well if this is the case, what happens when you are at the computer ? Most of the time, people sit there for hours staring the screen, working, playing games, searching for and reading articles, checking stock quotes, chatting, etc. Each of these activities can be stressful, especially if you have one of many computer problems that happen.

Maybe you find yourself eating fast food while you are working, or perhaps snacking on potato chips,. Greasy foods will only help to increase an Acne Problem. Maybe you are eating deliciously greasy French fries, with the oil sticking on your fingers, so when you sit there pondering with your head in your hands, you are adding more grease to your face.

Maybe a computer does not directly cause acne, but frequent use of a computer does help create an Acne Friendly environment.

So it all or nothing, no computer and clear skin, or computer and bad skin ? Of course not. There are ways that you can help the situation.

1. Take Periodic Breaks

Every hour or so, take a 5 minute bathroom break. Get up, walk around, get something to drink, go to the bathroom, clear your head. Reduce the stress level. This is a quick and easy tip that will help you maintain a balanced hormone level and keep clear skin.

2. Don’t eat while at your computer

I know it is hard at times to get away from work, or heated game, but give yourself a half hour away from the computer to have some food, ideally not fast food, though there are healthy fast food options. Also, eating properly will help get away from munching on potato chips and other oily snack foods. And after you eat be sure to wash your hands. A balanced diet will help.

3. Keep hand sanitizer or hand wipes at your desk.

If you do eat at your desk, or are a sweaty person, or do anything else to make your hands or face dirty, use either hand sanitizer or a hand wipe to keep you hands and face clean. Or at least have a small hand towel, or handkerchief to wipe your face. And basically, DONT TOUCH YOUR FACE !!!

These three tips may not be full proof, they will help naturally keep you Acne free if you are a frequent Computer user.

Strong Teeth and Healthy gums for Smokers

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (4 votes, average: 5 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

In addition to other health concerns smokers should have, Strong Teeth and Healthy Gums are an easily visible byproduct of smoking. Our teeth and smiles are very hard to hide, and a perfect smile can be drastically altered by smoking.

Though nicotine stains are a major factor in discoloring teeth and injuring our gums, there are other factors that damage strong teeth and effect the healthy gums; mainly a depletion of Vitamin C.

In our everyday lives, our bodies undergo stress. Whether it is hot or cold weather, emotional stress from work or family, air pollution, cold rain, bacteria, etc. we are always encounter something that is a strain on our bodies. With the increased demands on our bodies, we deplete our Vitamin C.

A habitual smoker, continuously puts an above average amount of stress on their bodies, more severely depleting their levels of Vitamin C. What this does do your once strong teeth and healthy gums, is the same, depleting. Vitamin C plays a very important role in maintaining and repairing healthy tissue. Initially this lack of Vitamin C can lead to Gingivitis, which will cause your gums to be red, swollen, and easy to bleed. This can also lead to more severe gum damage, which will either result in extensive dental work, or loss of teeth.

In addition to this, low levels of Vitamin C leads to low levels of Collagen, the cement that holds our body tissue together, and is the primary component of tendons, ligaments, bones, and TEETH. If you want strong teeth, you need collagen.

So if you are not going to quit smoking, are you doomed to a toothless smile ? Not quite. There are relatively simple ways that you can help yourself. Try to get in a practice of drinking more water throughout the day to help your body stay clean. If you do not like water, drink tea, mainly Lemongrass Tea, as it will help remove toxins from your body. Try to stay away from soda and too much fruit juice, as the sugar content in both will put holes in your teeth which will defeat the purpose of keeping them.

Increase your vitamin C intake by either eating more fruits containing vitamin C such as Oranges or Grapefruits, or simply take Vitamin C pills, or perhaps even better a multi vitamin.

This advice is good for anyone, smoker or not, but if you do smoke, do what you can to minimize the damage.

5 Ways to ReUse Tea bags

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 5 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

After you use a tea bag to make yourself a cup of tea, what do you do with it ? Chances are you throw it away. What else would you do with it, right? Well, actually there are a few things you can do with a used tea bag. Here are Sabaidi Tea Co.’s top 5 uses for used tea bags.

1. Make Another Cup

While this works best with whole leaf tea bags, really, you can reuse any tea bag. After you make a cup of tea with your tea bag, take the tea bag out of the water, hang it on your Tea Stand (if you are a Sabaidi Tea drinker) or put it on a plate or other clean location, and drink your tea. When your cup of tea is finished, use your tea bag to make a second, third, fourth, or possibly fifth cup of tea. A standard tea bag will only give you 2 cups really, but a whole leaf tea bag can give you up to5 cups throughout the day depending on how strong you like your tea. Just remember, each additional use, steep your tea bag for increasing increments until you receive a desired taste. For the last cup you may want to keep the tea bag in your cup.

2. Reduce Puffy Eyes

After you make yourself a cup of tea, drain out a majority of the tea so that it is not dripping but still damp, and place in the refrigerator. For this, really you need two bags, so keep the tea bag in the refrigerator until you make yourself a second cup of tea. When you have two, you can use the now damp, cool, tea bags to reduce puffy eyes.. Through most tea bags will work, certain teas such as Rose will work best, as rose water is known for its benefits to skin, especially if it is mixed with green tea which contains anti-oxidants.

3. Body Scrub

Another skin care benefit, Tea can be used as a body scrub. After you finish your tea, open the tea bag and put the tea on a plate or in a bowl (Really, whole leaf tea bags are what you need here). Ideally when you shower, rub the damp tea on your skin. The slightly abrasive leaves will help to exfoliate your skin. Green tea works best as the anti-oxidants in the green tea will provide additional skin care benefits.

4. Fertilizer

If you have potted plants, or a garden, the tea in your used tea bags works as a fertilizer. Tea is a leaf, and Herbal teas are herbs; Organic Matter (even if they are not “Organically Grown”, they are still organic. If there was anything dangerous to your plants in the teas, you could not drink them). While “All Natural” whole leaf teas and herbs work best, any tea, including tea dust and oil flavored teas will also work.

5. Cooking

With the heart of conservation in the form of “reuse,” you can reuse your teas as spices in cooking. While certain teas, such as Lemongrass and Pandan, will work best to help flavor your foods when cooking, you can use most teas; remember Tea is a leaf. Experiment and see what works best for you. Please leave comments here at Sabaidi Health to share your experiences.

Natural Hair Loss Remedy

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (3 votes, average: 5 out of 5)
Loading ... Loading ...

Hair Loss is something that most people face. There are countless medications and herbal remedies to help fight this affliction. This natural tip however does not involve medication, herbs, or creams. This tip involves something that you may have overlooked, a brush.

So simple, yet easily not thought of, a Big Paddle Brush is a great way to stimulate your scalp and hair follicles aiding in hair growth. For years people have said massaging your scalp when you wash your hair can help prevent hair loss.

Well this uses basically the same principals. A big paddle brush has many small tips that as you brush your hair will help to massage, or stimulate your scalp, increasing blood flow and circulation and slowing down Hair Loss.

The basic method I suggest is after you take a shower, towel dry your hair so that it is slightly damp. Then take out your big paddle brush and brush your hair for a few minutes. Make sure you get all the problems areas. You will take away dead hair so new hair can grow, and naturally stimulate your scalp, so that the increased blood flow can bring nutrients to your hair follicles. This tip works great in conjunction with a healthy hair diet.

This tip falls mostly in the preventative category, though if you are already showing signs of hair loss, spend a couple bucks and pick up a big a paddle brush. For Men, do not be ashamed, Big paddle brushes are for everyone. Use this natural remedy as one more tool in your arsenal to fight hair loss.

Gourmet Truffles

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (2 votes, average: 5 out of 5)

Known as the Diamond of the culinary world, Gourmet Truffles carry a certain allure to them unmatched by any other food. An exotic relative of mushrooms, Truffles are known to grown in Italy, France, and Asia and are most commonly Black, though their elegance is epitomized by the White versions. So rare and hard to find, that it was once believed that truffles grew where the ground had been struck by lightning. Now however, after scientific study, it is known that Truffles grow in a similar fashion to mushrooms, feeding off the nutrients of roots from other plants, trees in the case of truffles; where each specific type of tree lends a unique flavor. Though unlike mushrooms, truffles never grow above the ground, and are scouted out secretly from a group of individuals who virtually keep a lock and key to their traditional methods and “treasure maps.”

In addition to their unique and sought after taste, Gourmet Truffles are generally considered to be a healthy addition to your meal; especially for vegetarians. Along with other mushrooms, Truffles are considered to be low in fat and a good source of protein and amino acids. They are also known to have a low energy value, making them good for low calorie and low carbohydrate diets.

Fortunately for the consumer, it is now easy to find to this culinary delight, whether you are looking for Black Truffles, or the ultra rare White. Generally considered a gourmet item, Truffles are now more affordable as they come in a variety of ways. In addition to the more expensive fresh whole truffles, you can also purchase truffle oil, truffle butter, truffle paste, and truffles in water and mixed with beans, which are all much more affordable methods of adding the exquisite taste of truffles to your meals.

Truffles are available online, as well as in many gourmet food stores.

For those looking to take their first steps into the world of truffles, here is a Lobster Recipe that is delicious, and uses the affordable yet superb White Truffle Oil.

Ingredients:
2 live lobsters (1 1/2 lbs. each)
About 1 tbs. plus 1 tsp. white truffle oil
Table salt and freshly ground pepper
Rock salt, for serving
Chervil sprigs, for garnish

Directions:
1. In a large stockpot of boiling salted water, boil the lobsters for 12 minutes until red all over. Using tongs, transfer the lobsters to a work surface.

2. Twist the lobster bodies to separate the tail sections. Place the sections upside down and, using a large sharp knife, halve the tails lengthwise, cutting through the shell. Remove the tail meat from the shells and place in a stainless steel bowl. Set the bowl over the hot lobster cooking water to keep the meat warm. Reserve the tail shells. Crack the claws and remove the meat in one piece.

3. Using a large sharp knife, cut all the lobster meat in broad, thin slices. Return to the bowl, pour in 1 tablespoon of the truffle oil and toss to coat thoroughly. Season with table salt and pepper to taste and another teaspoon of truffle oil if desired.

4. Pour enough rock salt on each salad plate to hold a lobster tail shell, Nestle 1 tail-shell half on each plate and stuff with lobster meat. Garnish with chervil sprigs and serve at once

More information about the health benefits of truffles and mushrooms is available in the article “The Real Nutritional Value of Fungi” by Stephanie Ingram.
